While producers Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad had led us to believe that their Morbius movie would be ready to begin shooting this month, that doesn’t seem to the be case.

HN Entertainment has learned that filming on the spin-off film focusing on vampiric Spider-Man villain turned anti-hero Morbius, is now being eyed to begin filming this April in London, England.

This news isn’t terribly shocking since production start dates are normally in flux as we previously saw with Venom, it had been set to begin filming in September 2017 only to be bumped to October.

Dr. Michael Morbius attempts to cure himself of a rare blood disease via various science experiments that inadvertently turns Michael into a vampire. Starting out as a Spidey villain Morbius eventually embraced his horror roots and became a superhero figure in that corner of Marvel Comics joining horror/monster/occult teams such as The Midnight Sons and The Legion of Monsters.

After Sony’s massive success with Tom Hardy’s Venom, they obviously feel confident they’ll be able to find an audience for their other off-shoot Spider-Man movies.

Jared Leto is set to play the titular Morbius, Adria Arjona (Triple Frontier) his love/fellow vampire Martine Bancroft and now reportedly British actor Matt Smith (Doctor Who, Star Wars: Episode IX) is expected to take an undisclosed role too.

It looks like Adria Arjona has confirmed on Instagram that she’ll be undergoing some sort of special effects appliances for her character (who also becomes a vampire like Morbius), as she shared this behind-the-scenes video of her getting her head mold taken by the special effects team. Also stating that prep on Morbius is well underway.

Sony Pictures recently gave Morbius the release date of July 31st, 2020. A spot that had been vacated by Marvel Studios not too long ago for one of their Phase 4 movies.
