‘Joker’ Looks To Dethrone ‘Venom’s October Box Office Record With Estimated $94M Opening Weekend

Early weekend estimates from Deadline are already claiming that Joker will surpass Venom’s October box office record of $80.2 million earning an impressive $94 million or more.

This comes after Joker had an opening Thursday night cume of $13.3 million compared to Venom’s $10 million.

However, I suspect Joker could exceed a $100 million opening if weekend attendance increases as the target audience skew slightly older than you’d normally see with comic book movies.

Joker is the first R-rated film set within WB’s DC Comics universe and the success could help lead to many more mature movies featuring various characters from their comic book lineup. I’ll keep rooting for Deathstroke and Lobo solo movies getting smaller self-contained R-rated outings.

The next big DC Comics release will be Margot Robbie’s Birds of Prey on February 7th, 2020 and might also be an R-rated release too.

You can check out HN Entertainment’s review of Joker below.

Forever alone in a crowd, failed comedian Arthur Fleck seeks connection as he walks the streets of Gotham City. Arthur wears two masks — the one he paints for his day job as a clown, and the guise he projects in a futile attempt to feel like he’s part of the world around him. Isolated, bullied and disregarded by society, Fleck begins a slow descent into madness as he transforms into the criminal mastermind known as the Joker.
