Disney+ Cassian Andor Series Will Reportedly Begin Production Late 2019

Just a few weeks ago it was reported That The Americans executive producer Stephen Schiff has been brought on asexecutive producer and showrunner for Lucasfilm’s second live-action Star Wars series, which will feature Diego Luna reprising Rogue One: A Star Wars Story role as Cassian Andor. Now, we know when the film will go into production.

According to Production Weekly, production on the Cassian Andor series will begin shooting in October of 2019. We have also learned the series production will take place in California. Luna will first finish work on the second season of Narcos: Mexico.

The currently untitled series will follow the adventures of rebel spy Cassian Andor during the formative years of the Rebellion and prior to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Here is what Luna had to say about returning to the role.

Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me,” Luna said in a statement following the announcement. I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.

We don’t know a whole lot about the series just yet, but according to StarWars.com, “the rousing spy thriller will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire.”

This series will be the second live-action Star Wars series coming to Disney+, as production is currently underway on Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian.
