We’ve just learned a small production tidbit concerning the Star Wars spin-off live-action series from Lucasfilm that will focus on Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Just like it’s sister series The Mandalorian, it’s expected to shoot mostly in the state of California. There is a good chance that the state could end up the homestead hub for the live-action shows for Disney+. As Pinewood Studios UK is likely too crowded with Star Wars: Episode IX shooting there for the time being (reshoots/pick-ups are likely in 2019) and Bond 25’s production is coming up in March.
Details on the series are a little scarce at the moment but will have The Americans’ Stephen Schiff acting as the series showrunner and will focus on a younger Cassian Andor, which might see some de-aging CGI being used to make Luna a little younger. The series is being described as being in the spy genre, which makes sense with Schiff being hired.
It hasn’t been confirmed but we could see the return of Alan Tudyk’s K-2SO and how he partnered up with Cassian. ILM recently announced they’ve opened a television division which would allow them to add a higher level of special effects than most would expect for a streaming series.
Filming will begin once Luna completes the second season of Diego Luna’s Narcos: Mexico for Netflix.
