‘How To Train Your Dragon’ Franchise Writer/Director Dean DeBlois Hired For Paramount’s ‘Micronauts’ Movie

It looks like Paramount and Hasbro are recruiting again from the world of animation for another director for their films based on their toylines.

According to TheHollywoodReporter, Paramount has signed Dean DeBlois to write and direct their live-action Micronauts movies. Dean is best known for directing Lilo and Stitch, How To Train Your Dragon, How To Train Your Dragon, and How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.

Dean DeBlois, the filmmaker who wrapped up his celebrated How to Train Your Dragon trilogy earlier this year, has found his first post-Dragon project. After going big with dragons and animation, the filmmaker is going small and live-action with Micronauts, Paramount’s take on the Hasbro toy line. DeBlois will tackle writing duties and will direct.

The comics told of a Microverse in which diverse worlds were linked together and in which a power-mad dictator named Baron Karza kills the royal family, taking control. A small group of eclectic characters – a pilot awoken from a centuries-long deep sleep, alien gladiators, survivors of the coup – band together to form a resistance.

This comes after hiring Travis Knight (Kudo and The Two Strings) to direct their Transformer soft-reboot Bumblebee.

Micronauts has been given a release date of June 4th, 2021 by Paramount Pictures.

Its release date would suggest a summer production start next year.
