Steve Asbell Named 20th Century Studios’ President of Production – A Good Sign Ridley Scott’s Third ‘Alien’ Prequel Film Could Still Happen

Not too long ago it was announced that Emma Watts would be leaving her position as president of production at 20th Century Studios (formerly 20th Century Fox) and given her involvement of Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel franchise might have consequences to Alien: Awakening coming together if her successor didn’t have a similar relationship to those movies.

That fear seems to have been quelled for the moment.

Deadline reports that Disney has promoted studio executive Steve Asbell to president of production and this could be excellent news for fans of the Alien franchise that had been worried about the exit of Emma Watts (a champion of the Ridley Scott prequels) leading to a new person that maybe didn’t have the same positive outlook on future Alien movies.

You can also see from Asbell’s Twitter profile image he’s certainly a fan of the Alien franchise posing with a Facehugger and could be a cheerleader for it in the coming months.

Steve was previously a 20th Century Fox studio executive that has worked closely on Prometheus, Alien: Covenant, The Martian, The Wolverine, Logan, Ford v Ferarri, The King’s Man, Kingdom of Heaven, and most recently on Ridley’s The Last Duel.

A bulk of those projects being directed by Scott.

Working consistently with Ridley Scott is a good sign that Disney and 20th Century Fox could figure something out in the near future to potentially get Alien: Awakening made.
