HN Entertainment has learned that production designer Gary Freeman is expected to take over duties from Mission: Impossible – Fallout production designer Peter Wenham (The Tomorrow War).
Freeman is best known as the production designer on Tomb Raider, the spy thriller Allied, Last Christmas, Everest, and most recently worked with Robert Zemeckis on his The Witches remake for Warner Bros.
As an art director, Gary worked on Aeon Flux, Children of Men, Sunshine, Your Highness, 47 Ronin, and Disney’s live-action Cinderella.
Filming on Mission: Impossible 7-8 under the confirmed working title of Libra will be taking place at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in Watford, England. The same production space used for both Rogue Nation and Fallout previously.
Christopher McQuarrie has returned as the two sequels’ writer/director as filming on Mission: Impossible 7 and Mission: Impossible 8 is said to be taking place back-to-back, a suggestion the two films would be directly connected rather than two separate standalone features.
This would suggest that Gary Freeman would be working on both films.
The growing cast the includes Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson (Dune, Doctor Sleep), Hayley Atwell (Agent Carter, Captain America: The First Avenger), Vanessa Kirby (Hobbs & Shaw, The Crown), Pom Klementieff (Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.2, Avengers: Infinity War), Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road, X-Men: First Class, Those Who Wish Me Dead), and Shea Whigham (Agent Carter).
It was recently announced that Henry Czerny, who played Eugene Kittridge in the original film would be making a return.
Mission: Impossible 7 is set for release on July 31st, 2021 and Mission: Impossible 8 on August 5th, 2022.
