The Hollywood Reporter is now supporting previous claims that Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer (Free Guy, The Last Duel) is in the mix to play the young version of Furiosa in George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road prequel.
A few months ago, we had heard he was eying Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer for the role
Her involvement isn’t a new revelation as both Daniel Richtman and GWW had posted information the British actress was in the mix back in March based on casting/production grids that were circulating for the film.
This doesn’t mean that Jodie Comer is a “lock” for the role as Variety reported that Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch, The New Mutants) auditioned for the part via Skype and made sure to mention that she was one of many actresses vying to lead the action film.
I’m extremely curious to learn who else they’re auditioning for the part.
The reason for recasting Charlize Theron is that Miller didn’t believe the de-aging technology is up to his standards leading to him looking at younger actresses given how far back he wants to explore about the character’s origins.
There had also been claims that filming could begin as early as the fall, despite George Miller being busy prepping his next film Three Thousand Years of Longing, another rather large production that meant he was too busy to begin shooting this year and would likely mean many months of post-production work before cameras would begin rolling on any other projects.
It’s now impossible for Furiosa to begin shooting this year after the production on Three Thousand Years of Longing was postponed after lead actor Idris Elba contracted COVID-19 and Australia froze all film productions. When filming on Furiosa will take place is unknown as George Miller was hesitant to give any definite answers while speaking with The New York Times.
MILLER: “SO AFTER WE FINISH IT, AND HOPEFULLY EVERYTHING SETTLES DOWN WITH THE PANDEMIC, WE’LL SEE WHAT THE WORLD ALLOWS US TO DO WITH FURIOSA.”
What we do know for sure about the film is that Fury Road’s production designer Colin Gibson and cinematographer John Seale will be returning for the next installment.
Who would you like to see play a younger version of Furiosa?
