Geoff Johns to Script Green Lantern Corps Movie, Exits DC Entertainment

Geoff Johns has had a hand in the DCEU for a while now, but his impact has always been up in the air. Well it seems that he’s going to be having more of a direct impact moving forward, particularly in a movie that many of his fans hoped he we be a part of.

It looks like Geoff Johns has left DC Entertainment as its Chief Creative Officer, a position that will now be filled by Jim Lee as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. But don’t take that the wrong way, as he’s not done with DC comics yet. Johns is just moving on to launch Mad Ghost Productions, a production studio that will work on films, television, and comics. One of the first films that Mad Ghost Productions will work on is in fact, Green Lantern Corps. It appears Johns will be taking the project over from David Goyer.

In addition to this, Mad Ghost Productions’ website has put up a synopsis for Green Lantern Corps, which reads:

“Once of DC Comics’ greatest Super Hero universes, the film will feature Hal Jordan and John Stewart…”

The revelation of Jordan and Stewart as the two main characters of the film is a confirmation of years of rumors. When the film was first revealed, the tone was described as “Lethal Weapon” in space. However, it also seems to confirm that that leak from last week about Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz being the film’s stars was likely fake.

Geoff Johns rose to prominence as one of the most successful and well-known comic book writers in the industry in his nearly two decades working for DC Comics. Johns writing Green Lantern Corps should be welcome news to fans of the character. He wrote DC’s Green Lantern on-going title from 2005 to 2011, a run which earned him critical and popular recognition.
