At CineEurope 2018, Fox presented updates and screenings of many of its upcoming projects for the remainder of 2018 as well as some for early 2019. In addition, they also announced several films slated for the future. The private event was exclusive to selected members of the press.
Among the highlights were updates and trailers for the next Terminator film, upcoming Marvel movies, and the highly anticipated Bohemian Rhapsody, slated for theaters this November. The Terminator project will reunite James Cameron, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton together, while the Queen biopic brought together producer Graham King and starring actor Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury, along with drummer Roger Taylor and guitarist Brian May on stage for the presentation.
One of the highlights of Fox’s CineEurope presentation was the screening of a new trailer for X-Men: Dark Phoenix. The upcoming film will feature Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner playing a young Jean Grey, a role she first played in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse. The reaction from those included in the event was better than expected. The trailer also designated the film as a continuation of the current X-Men series which began in X-Men: First Class. Jean Grey was initially killed off in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand. She was later resurrected due to the events of X-Men: Days of Future Past, but Famke Janssen received minimal screen time in her final appearance as the character in that film. Dark Phoenix is scheduled for release in February of 2019 after a three month delay pushed it from its original November 2018 release date.
Another notable update was that of the upcoming sequel to the 2010 blockbuster Avatar. There has been talk of sequels in the eight years since the original movie, which shattered box office records at the time. Though no images were revealed, it was announced the film is now finally on the books, with James Cameron tabbed to direct. Overall, it was a well-received showing at CineEurope for the company.
