Big Rumor Suggests ‘Ant-Man’s Peyton Reed May Tackle ‘Fantastic Four’ Reboot and ‘Doctor Strange 2’ Eyes Early 2020 Shoot

There a couple of Marvel Studios rumors making the rounds tonight.

First, GeeksWorldwide claims that Ant-Man/Ant-Man and The Wasp director Peyton Reed might be gearing up to tackle Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four reboot, but aren’t able to confirm presently and are only hearing it could happen.

The GWW is hearing, but cannot confirm, that Marvel Studios is aiming for a 2022 release for the ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot. Sources also say that ‘Ant-Man’ director Peyton Reed is pushing to direct, and has already pitched his vision for the movie to Feige multiple times.

They add potential details on what Reed’s pitch may include connecting to the Quantum Realm and a 1960s setting, let’s take these details with a pinch of salt for the moment though. A 2022 release date would likely mean that Ant-Man 3 would get sidelined and that Fantastic Four would likely begin filming in 2021.

Reed’s pitch includes a 1960s setting that involves the Quantum Realm, and possibly The Black Knight.

Reed has talked up his desire to return to developing Fantastic Four even after exiting a previous incarnation at 20th Century Fox years ago.

Another interesting tidbit is very very early production information concerning Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange 2. As the sequel could be aiming for a January start in the United Kingdom according to a recent tweet from DiscussingFilm.

January is a long time away and as we’ve seen with plenty of other Marvel productions, see their start dates can change regularly during development/pre-production stages, but if they can get a finished script and fill roles in time it could happen.

If the film does end up shooting in the United Kingdom, HN Entertainment would be very comfortable to suggest that Pinewood Studios UK would likely be the primary filming location given that it’s the production stage currently being used for Black Widow and then in September for The Eternals.

Fantastic Four has yet to be confirmed as a project in development but Scott Derrickson has been confirmed as returning to director Doctor Strange 2.

There is an expectation that Kevin Feige will announce some of their upcoming releases for Phase 4 once Spider-Man: Far From Home is released in early July. However, we already know six of the planned releases which are Black Widow, The Eternals, Shang-Chi, Black Panther 2, Doctor Strange 2, and Guardians of The Galaxy 3. We currently don’t know if Feige will simply confirm those six movies or will exceed that lineup digging deeper in the slate.
