‘Joker’ On Path To Become Second Highest-Grossing DC Comics Film Since The Nolan Era

Warner Bros. has a surprisingly large hit on their hands with Joker as the film has now earned $737 million this weekend (estimates via ERC) and will likely keeping adding to that over the next couple of weeks.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has a box office total of $873.8 million and we believe there is a good chance that Joker matches or surpasses that number by the end of the theatrical run.

It only needs another $136.8 million to match and that seems extremely possible.

By next week it should have surpassed Shazam!, Man of Steel, Justice League, and Suicide Squad.

After crossing Batman v Superman’s landmark, that would make Joker the second highest-grossing DC Comics film post-Christopher Nolan, an impressive feat.

Aquaman taking the top spot of $1.148 billion.

Forever alone in a crowd, failed comedian Arthur Fleck seeks connection as he walks the streets of Gotham City. Arthur wears two masks — the one he paints for his day job as a clown, and the guise he projects in a futile attempt to feel like he’s part of the world around him. Isolated, bullied and disregarded by society, Fleck begins a slow descent into madness as he transforms into the criminal mastermind known as the Joker.

Joaquin Phoenix has teased interest in making a sequel and I have to assume that Warner Bros. will likely seriously consider that given the return on their investment as they only spent $55 million on Joker’s budget.

The next big DC Comics release will be Margot Robbie’s Birds of Prey set to be released on February 7th, 2020.
