James Wan’s Swamp Thing TV Series Officially Announced for DC Universe

Hot on the heels of the official unveiling of DC Universe, their long-gestating all-new streaming platform, DC Comics has unveiled yet another exclusive original series that will debut on the platform: Swamp Thing.

That’s right DC fans, Swamp Thing is getting the live-action treatment yet again, and the series has some serious talent behind it. The show is being executive produced by Aquaman and The Conjuring director James Wan, Ash vs the Evil Dead‘s Mark Verheiden, and Gary Dauberman and Michael Clear of Annabelle: Creation.

So, right off the bat the show will very clearly have horror chops, coming from a real who’s who of modern horror films. The show’s official description also doubles down on that, but sounds very accurate to the comics and should make long-time fans very happy.

“When CDC researcher Abby Arcane returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland—only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous—and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all.”

The show is officially set to debut some time in 2019, with the DC Universe platform launching sometime later this year.
