Deadline has revealed at Netflix and Zack Synder are developing a new anime project ahead of the release of his horror action film Army of The Dead. The untitled series is said to be inspired by Norse mythology with Jay Oliva said to co-writer with Snyder along with direct/showrun it.
The project, set in the world of Norse mythology, comes amid Netflix efforts to bolster its programming in the anime area.
Snyder and Oliva will write the series. Oliva also will serve as showrunner, director and executive producer and Snyder will executive produce. Deborah Snyder and Wesley Coller will produce the series alongside Snyder through Stone Quarry Animation, their production company’s newest venture with Oliva.
Oliva has been a storyboard artist on a bunch of Snyder’s films and also directed animated films such as Batman: Assault On Arkham, The Dark Knight Returns Part 1-2, Justice League Dark, and others.
The last time Snyder got involved with animation was his movie Legend of The Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole.
It’ll be interesting what style of “anime” they’ll be going for as the Netflix projects have been using the blanket term of “anime” over the last couple years for their animated projects, which are being developed by western, animation studios, animators and showrunners.
