HN Entertainment has confirmed that the working title for the production of Netflix’s live-action Cowboy Bebop series is Jazz Band.

The new series is based on the beloved science-fiction anime series.

The series is described as the jazz-inspired, genre-bending story of Spike Spiegel, Jet Black, Faye Valentine and Radical Ed, a rag-tag crew of bounty hunters on the run from their pasts as they hunt down the solar system’s most dangerous criminals. They’ll even save the world for the right price.

Netflix has also announced that production has begun on the series with this cute behind the scenes teaser video.

We’ve previously confirmed that filming is taking place in Auckland, New Zealand and most likely is taking place at Auckland Film Studios.

There has been some previous information pointing to the show also filming scenes in South Africa as well (possibly Cape Town).

I’m actually excited to see how Netflix pulls this off and if they’ll attempt to make multiple seasons.

Here is a breakdown of who is playing who on Cowboy Bebop.

  • John Cho as Spike Spiegel
  • Daniella Pineda as Faye Valentine
  • Mustafa Shakir as Jet Black
  • Alex Hassell as Vicious
  • Elena Satine as Julia

The Netflix series will likely drop between 2020 and 2021, depending on when they complete the post-production effects on the planet jumping science fiction show.

I like Cowboy Bebop title better. Why would it be called Jazz band? Are they in a band?
