With WB and DC set to release Shazam! as their next success since Aquaman, fans are eager to see what’s in store for “Earth’s Mightiest Mortal.” Fans are also excited at the idea of a tease for Black Adam, a role that has been tied to Dwayne Johnson for what feels like forever (really 2014). Recent reports have teased the setting of the film will be the fictional nation of Khandaq.

This was an interesting report as some fans speculated Black Adam’s home would be changed to Egypt. This was because WB changed Billy’s home from Fawcett City to Philadelphia, a change started by the “New 52” reboot of the character.

Also included in the previously mentioned reports was the antagonist of the film being Hawkman, specifically the incarnation of Carter Hall. Joining Hawkman is fellow Justice Society of America members Atom Smasher and Stargirl. The world building with these characters could be cool to see for fans, especially as Carter Hall is an archaeologist. His expeditions and past life as the Egyptian Prince Khufu can connect with how Egyptian-based deities give Black Adam his enhanced abilities.

These Egyptian influences can also connect, even if slightly, to Doctor Fate. The source of Doctor Fate’s powers is the sorcerer Nabu, who himself is a servant of the Egyptian-based deity known as Thoth. Besides this, Doctor Fate has always shared a connection to Egyptian mythology and influences especially with versions of the character such as the Earth-2 incarnation.

This version of the character would cast spells largely through the invocation of Egyptian deities not too dissimilar to how Shazam invokes the power of various gods. Utilizing Doctor Fate, or even the sorcerer Nabu, could be a great source of world-building if the DCEU decides to officially use the Justice Society on the big screen. Doctor Fate is a regular member of the team along with Hawkman, Atom Smasher, Stargirl, and technically Black Adam. Shazam was even a member for a time.

What do you think of this idea for the Black Adam film? Currently, plot details are limited but production is expected to formally begin in March 2020. Comment below with your thoughts, would you like to see either Doctor Fate or the JSA on the big screen?
