Sony Pictures is hoping to launch their Valiant Comics cinematic universe and will start with an R-rated movie focusing on Bloodshot starring Vin Diesel in the titular role. While we haven’t seen any footage from the film there is a good chance it will be very pleasing to the eyes according to the production team update we have to share.
HN Entertainment has learned that the fantastically creative team at Weta Workshop worked on costumes and props for Sony’s Bloodshot.
The props/costume team consists of those who have worked on films like District 9, The Hobbit, Mad Max: Fury Road, Ghost In The Shell, Power Rangers, Thor: Ragnarok, Elysium, Spectral, Mulan, Altered Carbon, Avatar, Pacific Rim: Uprising, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Blade Runner 2049, and Chappie.
While we can’t speak to the quality of the actual movie as Dave Wilson is a first-time feature film director and a trailer has yet to be released, but at the very least the film will look very pretty with Weta helping on the production design side of things and helping out the special effects team. I previously revealed that over the summer that Bloodshot will have cinematographer Jacques Jouffret (Mile 22, Purge: Election Year) another reason to believe Bloodshot will visually be impressive.
It remains to be seen if Weta Digital will lead the visual effects team, but there is a strong chance they will contribute.
Based on the Valiant comic book series, the story centers on a mob killer named Angelo Mortalli who enters a witness protection program. When he is betrayed by a handler, he becomes part of a secret experiment to create the ultimate killing machine.
Starring alongside Diesel will be Sam Heughan (Outlander), Eiza Gonzalez (Baby Driver, Alita: Battle Angel, Godzilla vs Kong, Hobbs and Shaw), Toby Kebbell (Kong: Skull Island, Dawn of The Planet of The Apes), Guy Pearce (Prometheus, Memento, Iron Man 3), Alex Hernandez, and Talulah Riley (Westworld).
Filming took place in Cape Town, South Africa and is currently in the post-production process.
Sony Pictures has set the R-rated film’s release date for February 21st, 2020.
