Westworld creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan have landed their first series order at Amazon.

The duo’s take on William Gibson’s futuristic novel The Peripheral has been picked up straight to series at the streaming giant the husband-and-wife writing and producing duo now call home. An episode count has not yet been determined.

The sci-fi drama series has been given a full-season order by Amazon.

Here is a synopsis of the original novel by William Gibson.

Where Flynne and her brother, Burton, live, jobs outside the drug business are rare. Fortunately, Burton has his veteran’s benefits, for neural damage he suffered from implants during his time in the USMC’s elite Haptic Recon force. Then one night Burton has to go out, but there’s a job he’s supposed to do—a job Flynne didn’t know he had. Beta-testing part of a new game, he tells her. The job seems to be simple: work a perimeter around the image of a tower building. Little buglike things turn up. He’s supposed to get in their way, edge them back. That’s all there is to it. He’s offering Flynne a good price to take over for him. What she sees, though, isn’t what Burton told her to expect. It might be a game, but it might also be murder.

The series produced by the duo comes from Warner Bros. Television and will be showrun by Scott. B Smith (A Simple Plan).

Lisa Joy is currently making her feature film directorial debut with the near-future drama Reminsience starring Hugh Jackman (Logan, Prisoners) and Rebecca Ferguson (Dune, Mission: Impossible – Fallout) for Warner Bros., which will be shooting in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Jackman will play a private eye who deals in recapturing vivid cherished memories for clients. He becomes vexed by one of those clients (Ferguson).  It is set slightly in the future in a Miami that has been changed by global warming, with much of the city submerged underwater.

Their other sci-fi series Westworld is about to premiere it’s third season soon on HBO.

It’s currently unknown when The Peripheral will begin filming and will be ready to stream on Prime Video.
