Werner Herzog Confirms He’s Playing A Villain In ‘Star Wars’ Series ‘The Mandalorian’ For Disney+

For a while now it’s been said that Werner Herzog has been linked for a role in Lucasfilm’s Star Wars series The Mandalorian from Iron Man director Jon Favreau and it was eventually confirmed. The filmmaker previously revealed he’d be working on a project called Huckleberry, the codename for The Mandalorian. There is now some concrete confirmation from the man himself and that he’ll be playing a bad guy.

While speaking with IndieWire (via ThePlaylist) Herzog has now confirmed he’s joined the cast of the Star Wars series and plays a “real villain”. You might remember that Werner played the main bad guy in Tom Cruise’s Jack Reacher.

“Now this is not a secret anymore, a small part, real small part, in ‘The Mandalorian,’ the ‘Star Wars’ sequel or whatever you call it. I like to do it because I know I’m good on screen, but only if I have to play a real villain,” revealed the filmmaker.

The rest of the cast includes Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Nick Nolte, Carl Weathers, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, and Omid Abtahi.

“After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.”

Jon Favreau will be writing and producing the series while the show’s directors will include Dave Filoni, Taika Waititi, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa, and Deborah Chow.

Taika Waititi has been spotted possibly voicing a droid character via a photo Jon Favreau posted on his Instagram account.

The Mandalorian is expected to be ready for the launch of Disney+ this fall.
