Warner Bros. is remaking the 1990 film The Witches and we have a new production update to share. HN Entertainment has learned that director Robert Zemeckis is expected to wrap filming on the Roald Dhal feature adaption on June 25th.
Our pals over at OmegaUnderground recently revealed the studio was aiming to begin filming on April 29th.
The cast consists of Oscar-winner Anne Hathaway (The Dark Knight Rises, Interstellar) as the villainess Grand High Witch, Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer (Snowpiercer, The Shape of Water) in the grandmother role along with newcomers Jahzir Bruno and Codie-Lei Eastick playing the children, who are turned into mice by the witches.
We’ve previously confirmed that filming is taking place at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the United Kingdom. Other locations are expected to be Georgia and Alabama, as the setting of the film is Alabama during the year 1969.
Warner Bros. has given The Witches a release date of October 16th, 2020.
While staying at a hotel in England with his grandmother, Helga (Mai Zetterling), young Luke (Jasen Fisher) inadvertently spies on a convention of witches. The Grand High Witch (Anjelica Huston) reveals a plan to turn all children into mice through a magical formula. When they find that Luke has overheard, the witches test the formula on him. Now, with the help of Helga and the hotel manager, Mr. Stringer (Rowan Atkinson), Luke the mouse must fight back against the witches.
