Warner Bros. has released the first official trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Tenet online and while it’s extremely striking visually, there are simply more questions than answers going on here.
However, it does indeed look like they’ll have the ability to move backwards in time, in a different plane of reality. The studio oddly failed to add a synopsis and we still don’t know character names.
John David Washington’s character seemingly is “killed” after proving his loyalty and is told he’s now in the “afterlife”. The espionage angle seems to shine here, but what this organization does isn’t actually clear.
John David Washington and Robert Pattinson are seen reverse scaling a building, along with a highway scene where cars are driving backwards and flipped cars are turning right-side-up.
Further teasing odd reality-bending tactics, we see John David Washington and Robert entering a room with a glass wall with bullet holes, Pattinson asking “What the hell happened here?” with Washington stating “It hasn’t happened yet”.
They’re also trying to prevent World War III, although, not from a nuclear holocaust.
Certainly a bit of a puzzle, not unlike Inception.
We also see Kenneth Branagh potentially playing a villain as this is alluded to with the voiceover (Kenneth being the villain is not confirmed though but would make sense).
Could Branagh be the reason they think World War III is coming?
Elizabeth Debicki’s character seems to have a connection to Kenneth’s character as they’ve together on a yacht.
You can watch the trailer below.
