2018 marks the hundredth year anniversary of the end of World War I, director Peter Jackson will release his stunning documentary They Shall Not Grow Old. The documentary colorizes and digitally restores hundred-year-old archival footage from the war giving us our best look at a brutally violent war that we don’t often focus on. We normally focus on World War II, but this documentary will give audiences a new perspective on the sacrifices made during The Great War along with moments from the war likely never seen before.
Warner Bros. recently nabbed distribution rights and will be in theaters in limited release next month. The studio has dropped a full trailer for the documentary which you can watch below. It’s certainly an impressive feat to restore footage this old.

By utilizing state-of-the-art restoration, colorization and 3D technologies, and pulling from 600 hours of BBC archival interviews, Jackson puts forth an intensely gripping, immersive and authentic experience through the eyes and voices of the British soldiers who lived it.
Warner Bros. has set the film’s limited release for December 17th and 27th.
