Warner Bros. has posted what seems to be a costume test/behind the scenes video for Birds of Prey after posting the first image of Harley Quinn on Margot Robbie’s Instagram account. The video looks to be very similar to the Joker video that director Todd Phillips posted in the fall.
We get neat glimpses of most of the characters of the film, which seemingly are carrying on the look established in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. I’m not terribly sure if people are going to be happy about that, but it is a Harley Quinn spin-off.
Director Cathy Yan and producer/star Margot Robbie have confirmed they are aiming to make an R-rated comic book film.
Birds of Prey will see Harley Quinn team up with DC Comics heroines Huntress and Black Canary against Batman antagonist Black Mask to save a young Cassandra Cain from his grasp.
Joining Robbie on the film’s cast includes Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Helena Bertinelli aka Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Dinah Lance aka Black Canary, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, Ewan McGregor as Roman Sionis aka Black Mask, Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain, and Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz.
Birds of Prey’s production team consists of cinematographer Matthew Libatique (Iron Man 1-2, Venom), production designer K.K. Barrett, supervising art director Kasra Farahani, stunt coordinator Jonathan Eusebio, and fight coordinator Jon Valera.
Filming in Los Angeles is well underway but is expected to complete around mid-April.
Warner Bros. has set Birds of Prey’s release date for February 7th, 2020.
