We’ve been talking for months that Aquaman’s global total at the box office has cemented its sequel and it’s now official! Warner Bros. has announced via EntertainmentWeekly that Aquaman is coming out in December 2022.
A sequel to Aquaman is officially happening — but it’s going to be a bit of wait.
Warner Bros. announced that a follow-up to the hit superhero film starring Jason Momoa will be released on Dec. 16, 2022.
James Wan had been loosely attached to return to direct but is said be waiting on a solid script before fully committing. WB establishing a release date this far away suggests they’re giving Wan the time he would certainly need for the script.
WB recently announced plans for spin-off titled The Trench, the modestly budgeted horror flick focusing on the amphibian creatures from the first movie will be produced by Wan with a script penned by Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald. It’s unknown if the project is a reworking of their submarine picture.
Aquaman has an impressive global box office cume of $1.1 billion, giving the studio over a billion reasons to continue making these movies.
