Vanity Fair has posted the second trailer for James Gray’s science fiction film Ad Astra starring Brad Pitt and Tommy Lee Jones on their Twitter account.

Astronaut Roy McBride (Brad Pitt) travels to the outer edges of the solar system to find his missing father and unravel a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet. His journey will uncover secrets that challenge the nature of human existence and our place in the cosmos.

The rest of the cast includes Ruth Negga, Liv Tyler, John Ortiz, and Donald Sutherland.

This new trailer seemingly establishes a dystopian future where humans have colonized the moon and other various planets. Pitt’s mission seemingly is little more complicated than you might expect as the film is loosely based on the Joseph Conrad’s novel Heart of Darkness, which was the direct inspiration for Francis Ford Coppola’s Vietnam War movie Apocalypse Now.

This film seems to a science fiction version of that tale.

Ad Astra is set for release on September 20th by 20th Century Fox/Disney.

A new poster was recently posted online.
