Lionsgate has released the first trailer for Roland Emmerich’s WWII action movie Midway, about the attack on Pearl Harbour and the Battle of Midway. Roland is best known for his more genre-focused filmmaking with Stargate, Universal Soldier, and Independence Day.
MIDWAY centers on the Battle of Midway, a clash between the American fleet and the Imperial Japanese Navy which marked a pivotal turning point in the Pacific Theater during WWII. The film, based on the real-life events of this heroic feat, tells the story of the leaders and soldiers who used their instincts, fortitude and bravery to overcome the odds.
The WWII action film stars Ed Skrein, Patrick Wilson, Luke Evans, Aaron Eckhart, Nick Jonas, Etsushi Toyokawa, Tadanobu Asano, Luke Kleintank, Jun Kunimura, Darren Criss, Keean Johnson, Alexander Ludwig, with Mandy Moore, Dennis Quaid, and Woody Harrelson.
It’ll be interesting if Roland can attempt to make a straight war film as he’s been spending most of his career lately making goofy disaster films. The cast is certainly an interesting lineup and I’m a sucker for a WWII story.
There seems to be a lot of unfinished visual effects in this trailer, hopefully, they can tighten-up before the release.
Lionsgate has given Midway a release date of November 8th.
