It looks like the Dune movie is quickly assembling its cast.
TheHollywoodReporter has revealed another fantastic casting announcement for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune reboot for Legendary Pictures. Veteran British actress Charlotte Rampling has landed the meaty role of the Reverend Mother Mohiam, a key supporting player in the science fiction fantasy epic.
Mohiam plays both sides of the conflict but her true motivations are to focus on their society’s royal breeding program to create the universe’s superbeing which they’ve been warned that Paul could become.
Set on the planet Arrakis, we find ourselves exploring the story of two warring galactic royal families House Atreides and House Harkonnen. When Duke Leto Atreides is assassinated, his son Paul and wife Lady Jessica escape only to be adopted by the Fremen, who becomes Paul’s personal army against the Harkonnen as he develops powers from the spice, a substance that extends life and powers interstellar travel. A tangled web of royal intrigue is revealed with the Emperor and other cosmic powers pulling the strings while attempting to erase house Atreides.
The rest of the cast includes Timothee Chalamet as the lead Paul Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson as his young mother Lady Jessica Atreides, Stellan Skarsgard as main villain Baron Harkonnen, and Dave Bautista as the Baron’s sadistic nephew Rabban Harkonnen.
Filming is expected to begin sometime in March at Origo Film Studios in Budapest, Hungary where Denis shot Blade Runner 2049. Also, as HN Entertainment first reported it will shoot scenes in the country of Jordan as well.
Legendary has yet to give Dune an official release date.
