Our good friends over at DiscussingFilm were able to speak with Venom screenwriter Jeff Pinker and was able to get some interesting comments on the future of the Venom franchise as the film has crossed the $850 million mark. An extremely impressive feat considering the lack of Spider-Man in the film. However, by the sounds of things, a crossover film might be happening in the near future.
“Without revealing anything that I’m not allowed to reveal, it is not impossible that in a future/upcoming Venom movie that Spider-Man will play a significant role.”
“I think it’s fair to say that everyone involved [Marvel and Sony] would be excited by a Spider-Man/Venom movie.”
And on the subject of Venom 2, Pinker was able to confirm it’s development and that he’s unlikely writing it.
“I can’t say anything other than it’s happening.”
Sony Pictures hasn’t officially announced a sequel but there have been two release dates set aside for two Sony films feature Marvel characters in 2020. The assumption being that the October 5th spot is being reserved for Venom 2.
Woody Harrelson is expected to return as villain Carnage but it remains to be seen if they’ll be adapting from the Maximum Carnage comic books, which did feature Venom teaming up with a group of heroes/ant-heroes that included Spider-Man, Morbius, and Black Cat.
Jared Leto’s Morbius solo movie is the next Spider-Man spin-off to shoot as it eyes a February production start in London, England. Casting seems to be the next step as most of the crew has been assembled as it’s currently in pre-production.
