According to Box Office and Box Office Mojo, Venom has made a huge slash in China pushing it past $600 million on its way to cross $700 million. Venom has now earned an estimated $673.5 million at the global box office, thanks to it’s $111 million debut in China. The Spider-Man spin-off has blasted past the box office return it needed to hit to deserve a sequel.
A Venom sequel is now a foregone conclusion looking at these numbers, despite mixed reactions.
The first film, of course, is setting up Woody Harrelson’s Carnage for the second film which might end up becoming an adaptation of sorts of the comic book run Maximum Carnage. That comic interesting enough included a massive crossover of multiple Spider-Man characters to defeat Carnage and his gang of supervillains.
It remains to be seen when Sony will move forward with a Venom sequel.
Morbius starring Jared Leto is going to be next Spider-Man spin-off with its production said to be eyeing a start in February taking place in London and Atlanta. Other Spider-Man characters said to be getting their own solo movies at Sony Pictures include Kraven The Hunter, Black Cat, Silver Sable, Nightwatch, Silk, and Jackpot.
