HN Entertainment has learned that production designer Oliver Scholl is expected to make a return for the untitled Venom sequel which is currently being written by Kelly Marcel.
Scholl’s credits include the first Venom, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Suicide Squad, Edge of Tomorrow, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., and Independence Day.
Recently, it was reported that Andy Serkis (Mowgli: Legend of The Jungle), Travis Knight (Bumblebee), and Rupert Wyatt (Rise of The Planet of The Apes) are currently in the mix for the new directing gig on the comic book film.
Tom Hardy posted an image of Serkis on Instagram but quickly deleted the post, which might confirm that Andy has landed the job.
Plot details are currently unknown for the film other than the last movie set up Woody Harrelson’s Carnage to become the main antagonist, which would suggest extensive special effects and motion capture work.
A clear sign of why directors with extensive motion capture/effects experience are being courted by Sony Pictures for Venom 2.
There is a strong expectation that both Tom Hardy and Michelle Williams will be returning.
Trades have suggested that Sony Pictures wants the production on Venom 2 to begin as early as November.
Sony is eager to get things moving for obvious reasons as the first installment made an impressive $856 million at the global box office, becoming one of the biggest successes for the studio.
Venom 2 is likely being released on October 2nd, 2020.
