HN Entertainment has learned that the production start on Guillermo del Toro’s remake of the 1947 film Nightmare Alley has been pushed from September to January 13th with an expectation that it will wrap on May 6th.
Filming will still take place in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
The film is based on the 1947 Fox movie that starred Tyrone Power as an ambitious young con-man who hooks up with a female psychiatrist who is even more corrupt than he is. At first, they enjoy success fleecing people with their mentalist act, but then she turns the table on him, out-manipulating the manipulator.
It remains to be seen what is behind the production hiccup, but finding his leads and scheduling them might be part of it.
We have also learned they’ve added stunt coordinator Darren McGuire (Shadowhunters).
The rest of the production team includes cinematographer Dan Laustsen (John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, The Shape of Water), production designer Tamara Deverell (The Strain, Star Trek: Discovery), and supervising art director Brandt Gordon (The Suicide Squad, Crimson Peak, Shazam!).
Bradley Cooper was recently mentioned by trades for the lead role.
A release date has yet to be set for Nightmare Alley, but we assume a festival/awards friendly fall spot is very likely.
