We are very interested to see how director Jason Reitman plans to inject new life and energy into the Ghostbusters franchise with his in-canon. It was previously revealed by ProductionWeekly that filming would begin on June 25th in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
HN Entertainment can now confirm that Sony Pictures and Jason Reitman plan on filming in Calgary over the summer. Not on only that, we can also add that film is expected to wrap on October 11th.
Calgary and the surrounding towns will likely be doubling for the sleepy farm town that the film takes place in. As the teaser announcement video from Sony suggested with the Ecto-1 covered-up in some unknown barn.
Having family in the Calgary area, I also wouldn’t be shocked if the Calgary Stampede in mid-July will factor into the film in some way.
Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things, IT) and Carrie Coon (Gone Girl, Fargo) have been previously revealed as playing mother and son in the film.
I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed that Jason has roles ready for the original cast members as there seems to be chance we’ll see some return. With Ivan Reitman and Dan Akyrod producing the project combined with Jason Reitman’s accolades, we might see some reluctant cast members coaxed into doing the project. However, nobody has officially confirmed any returning cast members are coming back.
Sony Pictures has set the Ghostbusters’ release date for July 10th, 2020.
