We don’t often see Adam Sandler acting in a movie that isn’t either a complete trash-fire or where it is completely obvious that he’s strictly there for a paycheck. However, the new trailer for the A24 thriller Uncut Gems seemingly is giving me vibes of when Sandler starred in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Punch Drunk Love and put in a decent amount of effort.
Sandler plays a jeweler named Howard that is trying to win a large sports bet when it could backfire ruining his entire life. The trailer is quite impressive and looks like something that could actually get Adam some awards consideration.
It already has some positive buzz coming from screenings at the Toronto International Film Festival and the slick trailer seems to shine as well.
The cast includes Adam Sandler, Kevin Garnett, Idina Menzel, Lakeith Stanfield, Julia Fox, Judd Hirsch, and Eric Bogosian.
From acclaimed filmmakers Josh and Benny Safdie comes an electrifying crime thriller about Howard Ratner (Adam Sandler), a charismatic New York City jeweler always on the lookout for the next big score. When he makes a series of high-stakes bets that could lead to the windfall of a lifetime, Howard must perform a precarious high-wire act, balancing business, family, and encroaching adversaries on all sides, in his relentless pursuit of the ultimate win.
Uncut Gems is set for release on December 13th.
