Watch Dogs: Legion was announced at Ubisoft’s E3 conference today, and the bar was set incredibly high as the upcoming title takes the N out of NPC. The newest installment in the franchise allows players to build their resistance in a technological and political dominated London set in the not so distant future.
The idea is to take back London by building an invincible resistance. The player will have the ability to recruit and control nearly any NPC walking around in the game. According to the trailer, each of the characters will have their own story. We are shown gameplay footage of three different characters: Ian, Helen, and Andrea.
The gameplay footage begins with Ian as attempts to locate a drone hacker by the name of Jimmy. A firefight ensues resulting in Ian getting killed. The game then cuts to a different location on the map as the player now gains control of an entirely new character, Helen. Helen, who is probably the most badass character in the entire game, takes Ian’s place as the former assassin now grandma takes out guard after guard. Once Helen completes her objective, we are sent to a black market as Andrea takes center stage to rescue Jimmy. Andrea proves to be quite the ass-kicker as the trailer shows her take out an entire warehouse of guards by herself. In the end, she can rescue Jimmy, and they part ways, leaving the player in control of Jimmy. I think the trailer does an excellent job of showcasing the ability the player will have to control any person in the world and create their own story.
While the overall objective to find a drone hacker is the same, playing as the three different characters create a unique and original player experience. I think if done correctly, this ambitious route that Ubisoft is taking could send Watch Dogs: Legion all the way the top, possibly receiving Game of the Year.
Watch Dogs: Legion will be available March 6th, 2020.
They also dropped a trailer for the game as well.
