Despite not making as much as tracking/projections had suggested, Toy Story 4 made an impressive $118 million this weekend, taking the top spot. It’s still an uptick from Toy Story 3’s $110.3 million from 2010, inflation aside. There is a good chance that it’ll cross a billion dollars like the last installment as it has made $238 million globally.
At number two, Child’s Play made $14 million this weekend on a budget of $10 million, which I assume will make some behind that film happy.
Here are the studio estimates via BoxOfficePro for the top ten movies from the weekend.
- 1. Toy Story 4 – $118 million
- 2. Child’s Play – $14 million
- 3. Aladdin – $12.2 million
- 4. Men In Black: International – $10.7 million
- 5. The Secret Life of Pets 2 – $10.2 million
- 6. Rocketman – $5.6 million
- 7. John Wick: Chapter 3 – $4 million
- 8. Godzilla: King of The Monsters – $3.7 million
- 9. Dark Phoenix – $3.6 million
- 10. Shaft – $3.5 million
Disney’s Aladdin continues to do gangbusters at the box office as the film has a current total of $810.1 million. It’ll be interesting to see if it had a shot at $900 million or beyond.
Interesting enough, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum is still doing extremely well while a lot of sequels are tanking. The $55 million budgeted action movie has earned an impressive $289.1 million and there is a chance it could eventually cross $300 million.
Next week will see the release of horror flick Annabell Comes Home and Danny Boyle’s Beatles musical Yesterday.
