Loki actor Tom Hiddleston took to his official Instagram account over the weekend to announce that preparations on his live-action Disney+ series has officially started and posted a photo with the folks involved with the MCU hard-canon series including director Kate Herron (Sex Education) and showrunner Michael Waldron (Rick & Morty).
HIDDLESTON: “Team Loki. Prep has officially begun! See you in the new year.”
The series is set to begin filming next year under the working title of River Cruise/Architect.
It was recently revealed that Loki, alongside WandaVision, would have direct connections (possibly also ramifications) for Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness and Phase 4. This comes after Kevin Feige has stated repeatedly that the upcoming shows on Disney+ would be MCU hard-canon and for the first time interlink with the feature films.
Hiddleston has played the god of mischief an impressive in Thor, The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, and most recently in Avengers: Endgame (where the Loki series begins) as he escapes with the tesseract.
Tom is also reprising the role in a What-If? episodes as well.
There is a good shot we’ll be seeing the Loki series tackle both time-travel (confirmed with concept art with Loki in NYC during 1975) and the Multiverse, the latter was being teased with reports that Sophia Di Martino will be playing Lady Loki in the show.
I’m slightly curious if the Loki series will help to also set up Thor: Love & Thunder and explain why Jane Foster becomes Lady Thor.
The Falcon & Winter Soldier/WandaVision are both currently filming in Atlanta, Georgia.
As the series is now officially in prep, we’ll likely start hearing many more casting announcements ahead of the production start.
Loki’s six-episode season is aiming for a release on Disney+ in the spring of 2021 around the same time as WandaVision.
