The other day it was reported by that Andy Serkis (Mowgli: Legend of The Jungle) was meeting with Sony Pictures about directing their untitled Venom sequel that they plan shooting sometime in November.
Despite Travis Knight (Kobo and The Two Strings, Bumblebee) and Rupert Wyatt (Rise of The Planet of The Apes) also being named as contenders, Serkis might have landed the job.
A now-deleted Instagram post (screenshot via ScreenRant) made by star Tom Hardy included a photo of Andy Serkis, which would allude that Andy is his top pick or that Serkis had indeed landed the directing gig.
Deleting the photo might have been a studio ask, as normally they’d like to make those announcements via a trade.
We don’t know a lot about the film other than Kelly Marcel has penned the script and it logically would include the villain Carnage, played by Woody Harrelson in the sequel tease.
The Carnage aspect of the film would suggest that the director they hire needs a background working with visual effects and importantly motion capture to make sure the effects look good and not jarring.
Venom earned a massive $856 million at the global box office, which certainly makes it a priority tentpole for Sony Pictures.
HN Entertainment recently learned that Venom production designer Oliver Scholl is returning for the sequel.
Venom 2 is tentatively slated for an October 2nd, 2020 release date.
