Venom 2 (under the working title of Fillmore) is currently filming at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden (first reported by HN Entertainment and later confirmed by Tom Hardy) in England and star Tom Hardy has posted what seems to be the very first set photo from the sequel via his official Instagram account (now deleted).
What’s interesting is that photo reveals they’ll be potentially covering the origin of Woody Harrelson’s Cletus Kasady aka Carnage as we see what looks to be the set of St. Estes Home for Boys, where Kasady was raised and may have burned to the ground.
Covering the murderous nature of Kasady might suggest they are indeed aiming to go darker with this second film.
The sequel will be directed by Andy Serkis with a cast that will include Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock aka Venom, Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasady aka Carnage, Michelle Williams as Anne Weying aka She-Venom, Naomie Harris (Skyfall, No Time To Die) as Skriek, and Stephen Graham (The Irishman).
Producer Matt Tolmach has suggested recently they’re mulling over making the sequel R-rated after the success of billion-dollar hit Joker.
If the film lands an R-rating it might make it difficult for Marvel to allow Tom Holland’s Spider-Man to appear in the film, as not to confuse audiences about the character’s branding (Marvel ultimately approves how their characters are presented to the public).
Sony’s next film set in their spinoff universe will be Jared Leto’s Morbius solo film featuring the vampiric anti-hero and will be released on July 31st, 2020.
Other projects in development include Kraven The Hunter, Nightwatch, Black Cat, Silver Sable, Silk, Jackpot, and possibly the resurrection of Drew Goddard’s Sinister Six.
Venom 2 is set to be released on October 2nd, 2020.
