Filming is underway on Tom Cruise’s sequel to Top Gun titled Top Gun: Maverick and we’ve learned of a nifty little crew tidbit for the action flick.
HN Entertainment can now confirm that Tom’s stunt double Casey O’Neill is going to be Maverick’s stunt coordinator.
Casey has been Cruise’s stunt double on a number of films which include War of The Worlds, Valkyrie, Mission: Impossible III, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Knight and Day, Jack Reacher, The Last Samurai, and Collateral. His stunt coordinator credits include Mile 22, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Patriots Day, Proud Mary, Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.2, The Lone Ranger, and The Jungle Book.
I previously revealed at OmegaUnderground the film’s cinematographer would be Claudio Miranda (Oblivion, Life of Pi) and it’s production designer Jeremy Hindle (Zero Dark Thirty).
The rest of the cast includes Jennifer Connelly, Miles Teller, Val Kilmer, Jon Hamm, Ed Harris, Jean Louisa Kelly, and Glen Powell. Maverick will see Tom Cruise’s Pete Mitchell training a new generation of US Navy pilots. It was recently revealed that Mission: Impossible – Fallout screenwriter/director Christopher McQuarrie got involved with Maverick, possibly doing some script rewrites on the sequel
Paramount Pictures has set the release date for Top Gun: Maverick for June 26th, 2020.
The Top Gun Naval Fighter Weapons School is where the best of the best train to refine their elite flying skills. When hotshot fighter pilot Maverick is sent to the school, his reckless attitude and cocky demeanor put him at odds with the other pilots, especially the cool and collected Iceman. But Maverick isn’t only competing to be the top fighter pilot, he’s also fighting for the attention of his beautiful flight instructor, Charlotte Blackwood.
