A female-centric version of the hit comedy film 21 Jump Street is in the works over at Sony, and the studio may have found it’s star.
According to Collider, Girls Trip star Tiffany Haddish is in talks reboot of the franchise.
22 Jump Street writer Rodney Rothman is penning the script and is set to direct, with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller likely producing.
The formula would be tweaked slightly from the film that starred Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. Haddish would be an undercover cop posing as a teacher and mother of a new student, her partner. The outlet is also reporting, Awkwafina, the breakout star of Ocean’s 8 and Crazy Rich Asians, is at the top of Sony’s list for that role.
The franchise was also set to collide with Men in Black at one point in a unique cinematic crossover, with director James Bobin (Through The Looking Glass) attached, but those plans eventually died out. Sony gave Men in Black its own reboot led by Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson.
A release date for the reboot has been announced at this time.
