Deadline reports that The Russo Brothers have attached themselves to the action comedy Down Under Cover as producers. The buddy cop film stars Thor actor Chris Hemsworth (who is trying to develop a comedic career) and rising comedic talent Tiffany Haddish as two detectives loving to crack a string of casino heists.
Joe & Anthony Russo are re-teaming with Chris Hemsworth. The Avengers: Endgame directors have committed to produce Down Under Cover, the comedy that teams Hemsworth with Girls Trip‘s Tiffany Haddish on a two-hander buddy cop action comedy that is being mounted in the spirit of films like 48 Hours, Rush Hour and The Heat. They’ll produce under their AGBO banner.
The project is going to market at Cannes and there are reportedly four offers for the original comedy penned by Peter Hoare.
In Down Under Cover, Hemsworth will play a detective who goes undercover to crack a series of baffling casino heists in which the prime suspects are a troupe of Australian male erotic dancers. He’s forced to take the partner no one else will — Haddish’s character, a lone wolf who does things only one way: hers. Together they have to work as an unlikely duo to solve the crime of their careers.
Joe and Anthony Russo also recently produced Hemsworth’s upcoming Netflix actioner Dhaka that co-stars David Harbour. The next directorial effort from the siblings will be Cherry, a heist flick starring Tom Holland.
One of Haddish’s upcoming projects is the comic book film The Kitchen coming out on August 9th with a cast that includes Elisabeth Moss, Melissa McCarthy, Domhnall Gleeson, James Badge Dale, and Common.
