It looks like New Line Cinema has found the first actor for their feature film reboot of the Mortal Kombat franchise.
As TheHollywoodReporter has revealed that Indonesian martial arts actor Joe Taslim (The Raid, Star Trey Beyond, Fast and Furious 6) has landed the key role of Sub-Zero, one of the original characters that are expected to appear in the film.
New Line’s Mortal Kombat movie has found its Sub-Zero.
Actor and martial artist Joe Taslim will be playing the superpowered fighter in the live-action adaptation of the video game.
Taslim’s is the first deal to close for Mortal Kombat, which is set to shoot in southern Australia later this year.
Hiring a real martial artist for the role of Sub-Zero would suggest that the studio might be aiming to cast others with fighting experience. Something that was recently echoed by a massive casting call in Australia for martial artists, fighters, boxers, and stunt people to audition for roles, not just extra work.
At one time Joel Edgerton (Warrior) was linked for the role of Kano by ThatHashtagShow.
Filming is expected to begin this fall at Adelaide Studios in South Australia, Australia.
Warner Bros. gave Mortal Kombat an official release date of March 5th, 2021.
