Variety reports that Season 3 for The Mandalorian is apparently a go and that the production design for the live-action Star Wars series started this week with Jon Favreau already writing for the upcoming season.
Sources close to the production have confirmed that creator Jon Favreau has been “writing season 3 for a while,” and that the art department, led by Lucasfilm vice president and executive creative director Doug Chiang, has been creating concepts for Season 3 “for the past few weeks.”
This isn’t terribly shocking as around this time last year HN Entertainment first reported that Lucasfilm/Disney would be moving forward with a Season 2.
This could suggest that if things move forward quickly and they’re able to could begin shooting in the fall/winter.
Disney+ seemingly is still hopeful they’ll be able to begin airing Season of The Mandalorian in October, but it’s unknown if they’ll be able to complete the post-production in time.
Season 2 wrapped last month with new additions to the cast expected to include Rosario Dawson (Sin City) and Michael Biehn (Terminator, Aliens, Planet Terror).
HN Entertainment has been able to confirm that director Robert Rodriguez (Alita: Battle Angel) is also working on an unknown amount of episodes on Season 2 as well.
Are you excited to hear that Disney is confident enough with the upcoming season that they’re already planning the third one?
Lucasfilm is also working on a Cassian Andor series and one focusing on Ewan McGregor’s Ben Kenobi.
There have been rumblings of more live-action series on the horizon, however, no official word from Disney or Lucasfilm on that front.
