Last night, Lionsgate dropped the second trailer for Neil Marshall’s Hellboy reboot based on the fantastic Dark Horse comics created by Mike Mignola. This time playing up the maturity factor of the new film with a Red Band trailer.
Hellboy is back, and he’s on fire. From the pages of Mike Mignola’s seminal work, this action-packed story sees the legendary demon superhero (David Harbour, “Stranger Things”) called to the English countryside to battle a trio of rampaging giants. There he discovers The Blood Queen, Nimue (Milla Jovovich, Resident Evil series), a resurrected ancient sorceress thirsting to avenge a past betrayal. Suddenly caught in a clash between the supernatural and the human, Hellboy is now hell-bent on stopping Nimue without triggering the end of the world. Hellboy also Ian McShane (John Wick), Daniel Dae Kim (‘Hawaii Five-O” and “Lost”), and Sasha Lane (American Honey).

It certainly has a different feel as they’ve decided to take a more visual effects approach on the material and going a little more action-focused as well. This new trailer also confirms previous HN Entertainment reporting that we had confirmed that the Baba Yaga appears in the film.
Mike Mignola has been vocal that he hopes that the film is successful enough to spawn Hellboy into its own cinematic universe and from the sounds of things the film will indeed attempt to expand the world.
Lionsgate has set Hellboy’s release date for April 12th.
