After recent news that Amasia Entertainment had acquired the film rights to The Green Hornet, The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Universal Pictures is partnering with Amasia in a new deal reached last week for The Green Hornet & Kato.
The characters are likely best known from the 1960s series that co-starred future martial arts legend, Bruce Lee, as sidekick Kato.
THE GREEN HORNET – Playboy bachelor and media mogul Britt Reid is the owner and publisher of the Daily Sentinel newspaper, but as the masked vigilante Green Hornet, he fights crime with the assistance of his martial arts expert partner, Kato, and his weapons-enhanced car, a custom Imperial called the “Black Beauty”.
A search for a screenwriter is underway.
The Green Hornet had been recently modernized with the Seth Rogen and Jay Chou film from 2011, which wasn’t exactly a hit with audiences as the film was only able to earn globally and took more of an action-comedy angle.
I’m slightly curious to see if they’ll be going with a slightly more grounded incarnation and if they’ll attempt to go with a period setting.
Who would you like to see play the two roles and fill the shoes of Bruce Lee’s Kato?
