Variety reports that veteran British actor Ray Winstone has landed an undisclosed role in Cate Shortland’s Black Widow movie for Marvel Studios and starring Scarlett Johansson.
“The Departed” star Ray Winstone has joined Marvel’s “Black Widow” standalone movie, sources tell Variety.
Ray has had a varied career which includes roles in films such as Sexy Beast, Noah, The Departed, Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull, The Proposition, King Arthur, and Hugo.
Ray will join Rachel Weisz, David Harbour, Florence Pugh, and OT Fagbenle.
Kevin Feige pretty much confirmed the solo film will be a prequel of sorts when he seemingly compared it to Breaking Bad prequel Better Call Saul while speaking with i09.
“There’s a method to the madness,” Feige told io9 while promoting Spider-Man: Far From Home. “There’s always a method and doing things in an unexpected way is something we find fun. There are ways to do prequels that are less informative or answer questions you didn’t necessarily have, and then there are ways to do prequels where you learn all sorts of things you never knew before.”
“I look at Better Call Saul as a wonderful example of a prequel that almost completely stands on its own apart from Breaking Bad because it informs you about so many things you didn’t know about before,” Feige continues. “So time will tell which way we’ve gone with a supposed Black Widow movie.” Feige lightly chuckled after that last phrase.
Filming has moved from Norway back to Pinewood Studios UK.
Black Widow is currently without an official release date but is assumed to be coming out on May 1st, 2020.
