In the most recent issue of ProductionWeekly, the working title of Matt Reeves’ The Batman is listed as Vengeance. A title that is mostly relegated to the filming of a project, rather than a title that is used on posters or theatrically.
HN Entertainment has been able to independently verify/confirm the working title is indeed going to be Vengeance while they shoot most of the film in England.
However, it’s unknown if they’ll keep that title throughout the entire production and during secondary filming locations which may or may not include the United States.
Also, we don’t know if the title refers to Batman or the main antagonist as there have been hints they could be adapting The Long Halloween.
Here are some examples of previous working titles for DC Comics films.
Aquaman used Ahab, Birds of Prey used Fox Force Five, Wonder Woman 1984 used Magic Hour, and The Suicide Squad used El Dorado.
Filming on The Batman will take place next year at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in Watford, England. The production stage facility previously used for Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman 1984, Justice Leauge, and the Harry Potter films including Fantastic Beasts 3.
Batman’s impressive cast that includes Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne aka Batman, Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle aka Catwoman, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton aka The Riddler, Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.
Peter Sarsgaard (Jarhead, Green Lantern) and Jayme Lawson have undisclosed roles as well.
Matt Reeves announced over the weekend he plans to bring footage from The Batman to CCXP 2020, the massive convention located in Sao Paulo, Brazil that has double the attendees as San Diego Comic-Con.
It would make sense as they won’t be able to attend either San Diego Comic-Con or CCXP in 2021 given the release date of the film.
Warner Bros. has given The Batman a prime summer release date on June 25th, 2021.
