Terry Rossio Reportedly Returning To Write Disney’s New Installment Of ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’

Earlier this year it was reported that Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick had walked away from writing a reboot of the Pirates of the Carribean franchise after they boarded the project back in October.

This left Disney mulling over two options, end the successful franchise, or continue on with a new writer. Well, thanks to a new report, it looks like Disney is bringing in a familiar name with some pirates history to take over writing duties.

According to Discussing Film, Terry Rossio who wrote Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, is in talks to pen the screenplay for the big budget reboot. Rossio most recently wrote the screenplay for Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Aladdin.

As of now, Disney has yet to comment on the report, so this is by no means a confirmed deal if there is even one on the table. Johnny Depp who played the popular Jack Sparrow is not expected to return to the franchise, as the studio is set to save $90 million dollars, and is expected to tell new stories in this universe. Not to mention all the behind the scenes drama surrounding the actor.

It was unclear if the previously reported Joachim Rønning will return to direct. One has to assume they would’ve looked in a new direction for a director. Jerry Bruckheimer was once again boarding the ship as a producer and is still attached to the project.

The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is one of the most financially successful of all time. The five films have grossed over $4.5 billion at the worldwide box office. The last pirates film Dead Men Tell No Tales ended up making $794.1M worldwide for the studio, dominating the Memorial Day weekend in 2017.
