HN Entertainment can confirm that Terminator: Dark Fate and Taboo production designer Sonja Klaus has joined the production team on Amazon Studios’ upcoming 10-part sci-fi thriller The Power, directed by Emmy-winner Reed Morano (The Handmaid’s Tale).

Sonja was a set decorator on films such as Prometheus, X-Men: First Class, Kingdom of Heaven, Robin Hood, Body of Lies, and Gladiator.

Filming The Power is set to begin in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on March 23rd and will wrap on July 8th.

Reed Morano is also an accomplished cinematographer and is expected to be her own director of photography on the series.

The series is based on the novel by Naomi Alderman, who will also be heading-up the show’s all-female writers’ room.

In The Power, the world is a recognisable place: there’s a rich Nigerian kid who lounges around the family pool; a foster girl whose religious parents hide their true nature; a local American politician; a tough London girl from a tricky family. But something vital has changed, causing their lives to converge with devastating effect. Teenage girls now have immense physical power – they can cause agonising pain and even death. And, with this small twist of nature, the world changes utterly.

Here is the series synopsis.

The world of The Power is our world, but for one twist of nature. Suddenly, and without warning, all teenage girls in the world develop the power to electrocute people at will. It’s hereditary, it’s inbuilt, and it can’t be taken away from them. Coming alive to the thrill of pure power: the ability to hurt or even kill by releasing electrical jolts from their fingertips, they rapidly learn they can awaken the Power in older women. Soon enough nearly every woman in the world can do it. And then everything is different.

The cast includes Leslie Mann, Auli’i Cravalho (Moana), Eddie Marsan (Deadpool 2, Filth, Atomic Blonde, The World’s End), John Leguizamo (John Wick), Toheeb Jimoh, Ria Zmitrowicz, Halle Bush, Heather Agyepong, Nico Hiraga and Daniela Vega.

Amazon has yet to announce when they plan to release The Power.
