Writer/director Taika Waititi attended the Toronto International Film Festival to screen/promote his anti-hate satire Jojo Rabbit.
During an interview with MTVNews, Taika was asked to clarify who is the lead of his upcoming Marvel Studios sequel Thor: Love and Thunder. It was asked as Marvel Studios and Taika revealed at San Deigo Comic-Con that Natalie Portman would be reprising the Jane Foster role in the movie and will see Jane become the female version of Thor, like in recent comics.
Taika states that Chris Hemsworth is still the film’s lead, so he won’t be getting sidelined.
MTV: Who’s the star of Thor: Love and Thunder? Is it Natalie, is it Chris?
WAITITI: “It’s Chris. It’s a Thor film. He is Thor, it’s a Thor film. She’s in it.”
You can watch the exchange below along with Taika joking that Sam Rockwell’s Justin Hammer could show up and that he’s only on “page seven” of the script.

Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie will be returning as well and as the King of News Asgard is going to be searching for her Queen. Kevin Feige recently confirmed Valkyrie’s LGBTQ status.
We’ve also heard that Taika’s Korg is coming back too with a slightly larger role than in Thor: Ragnarok.
The director has his sports flick Next Goal Wins next and also has a role in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, both are expected to be shot before Thor: Love and Thunder starts its own production in 2020.
Thor: Love and Thunder is said to begin filming sometime next August at Fox Studios Australia in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Which will come after Destin Daniel Cretton’s Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings, said to shoot first there.
Marvel Studios officially announced Love and Thunder will be released on November 5th, 2021.
